PoE Reflecting Mist - Path of Exile

The Reflecting Mist is a unique and powerful currency item in Path of Exile, providing players with the opportunity to reflect rare rings or amulets, resulting in two mirrored halves with modified stats. This mechanic allows for both high-risk and high-reward gameplay, as players can potentially enhance their items significantly or end up with less desirable results.

Overview

Reflecting Mist

Stack Size: 10
Description: Unpredictably reflects a rare amulet or ring, breaking it into two mirrored halves with reflected modifiers.
Usage: Right-click this item, then left-click a rare amulet or ring to reflect it. It cannot be used on Synthesised, Veiled, or Influenced items.

Mechanics

How It Works

Using a Reflecting Mist on a rare amulet or ring will:

  1. Reflect the Item: The item will be broken into two mirrored copies, each with randomly modified stats.
  2. Modifier Adjustment: Each modifier's value on the original item will be altered by a random percentage, and the modifiers will be distributed as positive or negative between the two copies.

Restrictions

  • Item Types: Can only be used on rare rings and amulets. Influenced, Synthesised, Corrupted, Mirrored, or Unique items cannot be reflected.
  • Sockets: Items with sockets, such as Unset Rings or Unset Amulets, cannot be reflected.
  • Preservation: Catalysts and Anointments on the item will be preserved upon reflecting.

Modifier Multipliers

The modifier multiplier magnitude is multiplicative with increases from Catalyst quality or Simplex Amulet's implicit modifier, which are additive with each other.

Strategy

Positive and Negative Modifiers

Reflecting Mist can result in both beneficial and detrimental modifiers. Players need to carefully consider the potential outcomes and how they align with their build strategies.

Beneficial Negative Modifiers

Some negative modifiers can be turned to the player's advantage:

  • Minimum Charge Modifiers: For example, +1 to Minimum Frenzy Charges becomes -1, which can be beneficial if there are no other sources of minimum charges.
  • Damage Against You: Modifiers that add flat damage to your attacks may instead add flat damage to attacks against you, creating interesting build opportunities.
  • Resistance Reduction: -% to Lightning Resistance can be used to cap -200% Lightning Resistance for Doryani's Prototype.
  • Reduced Energy Shield: Useful for builds like Mahuxotl's Machination by reducing the amount of static ES recovery needed.
  • Increased Effect of Curses: Beneficial for self-cursing builds using Temporal Chains to prolong buff effects.
  • Reduced Projectile Speed: Useful for skills like Rolling Magma or Spectral Helix to extend projectile duration.
  • Reduced Area of Effect: Allows skills like Rain of Arrows and Toxic Rain to have more area overlaps for hitting the same target.
  • Shock on Focus: Can be used with Lethe Shade for self-shocking with full uptime.
  • Life or ES Loss: Small amounts can benefit "while Leeching" mechanics.
  • Increased Mana Cost: Useful for mana-stacking builds, Archmage Support, or Kitava's Thirst.

Modifiers Without Negative Counterparts

Some modifiers do not have a negative version:

  • Aspect Skills: Grants Level 20 Aspect of the Avian Skill.
  • Metamod Crafts: Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers.
  • Triggered Skills: Trigger Level 10 Summon Spectral Wolf on Kill.
  • Movement Immunities: Cannot be Shocked, Ignited, Chilled, or Frozen while moving (legacy mods).

Item Acquisition

Reflecting Mist has specific restrictions on where and how it can drop. It can be obtained from a Reflecting Mist encounter in Tier 16+ maps.

Reflecting Mist offers a unique way to modify rare rings and amulets, providing opportunities for creative and strategic item crafting. While it involves a degree of risk, the potential rewards can be significant for those willing to take the chance.

The Reflecting Mist can create a pair of rings or amulets, exact reflections of one other. On one, half the properties are magnified in intensity, with the other half negated to hinder you. The other item has the opposite set of mods negated. You may only take one.

Alongside rewards from each encounter, the Lake can manifest new ways to create rare items. The Reflecting Mist will create a pair of rings or amulets, exact reflections of one other.

  • Once you reach maps, you’ll be able to itemise your Mirrored Tablets, so that they don’t have to be played immediately. They can be stored for later or traded with other players.
  • Among the many rewards you can find at the lake is a way of acquiring a new variation of rare jewellery. Some reflecting mist offers you two rings or amulets, perfect mirror copies of each other except that on each item, a set of mods is entirely negated, having a detrimental impact on your character. All of the mods on these items are scaled up to much higher values than they would normally be. You may pick only one of these items to take from the lake.
  • A rarer version of this reward can also be found that allows you to bring your own ring or amulet, distorting and reflecting it with the same crafting process. It will certainly be tempting to gamble with some of your best jewellery, to try to double the values that really matter for your build, and negate the ones you don’t care about.

In the league’s late endgame, you may bring your own rings and amulets to the Mist. It will magnify, distort and reflect them in a similar way, providing access to previously-unattainable power on rare items.

Sometimes, Kalandra may appear in the Lake of Kalandra, and create a Reflecting Mist upon completing the encounter, offering you a choice between two Reflected mirrored rare rings or amulets with unusual mods. Some are scaled-up versions of existing modifiers, while others are strong negative versions of the same modifier. The rings provide inverse stats; a negative mod on one ring is positive on the other. The magnitude of the modifiers is dependent on the difficulty of the completed encounter. You may only pick one of these items to take.

  • Dusk Ring
  • Penumbra Ring
  • Gloam Ring
  • Tenebrous Ring
  • Shadowed Ring (3 variations)

These rings come Rare and Mirrored, and contain the higher magnitude modifiers of Reflected rings. They can be vendored 5-to-1 at any vendor to obtain a craftable, non-mirrored version.

Rarely, an evil version of Kalandra will appear shrouded in teal-coloured mist, mirroring Unique enemies in the tile and granting an additional Reflecting Mist. This will be denoted with the following voicelines:

Ethereal Reflecting Mist: Bring your own rings and amulets to the Mist

In the league's late endgame, you may bring your own rings and amulets to the Mist. It will magnify, distort and reflect them in a similar way, providing access to previously-unattainable power on rare items.

Ethereal Reflecting Mist allows you to mirror your own ring or amulet. The following is an example.

Lake of Kalandra Changes

We are increasing the rewards from both league and non-league encounters throughout the Lake, particularly at higher map levels and higher difficulties.
We will raise the occurrence rate of (regular, not Ethereal) Reflecting Mist so that you get more choices of reflected rare jewellery as a reward for playing harder encounters in the Lake.
We're also investigating some Lake of Kalandra QoL like marking which rooms are completed on the Lake Map while you're exploring the Lake.
