Defeat a Stygian Spire while affected by a Shrine

  • Stygian Spire. League mechanics: Abyss.
  • Shrine. League mechanics: Domination.

Abyssal Depths now always contain an Abyssal Lich. Abysses have a chance to spawn a Stygian Spire in place of their reward chest, which drops a Stygian Vise, jewels and other items. 

Shrines can appear randomly in most areas, granting significant bonuses to nearby monsters or casts spells at nearby players, and are often guarded by monsters. Players can steal the shrine to gain its bonuses for 45 seconds or until leaving the area. Players can have any number of different shrine effects at once.

Defeating a Stygian Spire while affected by a Shrine in Path of Exile (POE) requires some planning and opportunistic gameplay. Here's how to tackle this challenge:

Understanding the Mechanics:

  • Stygian Spire Spawn: Stygian Spires have a chance to spawn at the end of Abyss encounters. They're not guaranteed, so you might need to run several Abysses before encountering one.
  • Shrine Effects: Shrines offer various temporary buffs, but the effect you need will depend on your character and playstyle. Some beneficial Shrines include:
    • Gibbering Gemcutter: Increased attack and movement speed for a strong offensive boost.
    • Hallowed Ground: Grants increased elemental resistances for better survivability.
    • Leek of Life: Provides life regeneration to sustain yourself during the fight.

Strategy:

  1. Targeted Map Selection: Maps with high Abyss density like "Acid Lake" or "Lex Proxima" increase your chances of encountering a Stygian Spire.

  2. Prioritize Movement Skills: Having a reliable movement skill like Flicker Strike or Leap Slam is crucial to dodge the Spire's mortar attacks.

  3. Damage Output: Ensure your build deals sufficient damage to quickly take down the Spire before the Shrine effect wears off.

  4. Active Shrine Prolongation (Optional): The Atlas Passive Skill Tree offers options to extend Shrine effects. Consider investing points in these passives if you struggle to defeat the Spire within the base Shrine duration.

  5. Opportunistic Approach: Don't actively seek combat with a Stygian Spire if you haven't activated a beneficial Shrine. Focus on clearing the Abyss and activating Shrines until you find a synergy that suits your build (e.g., Hallowed Ground for a squishy character).

  6. Kiting and Patience: Once you encounter a Stygian Spire with an active Shrine buff, prioritize dodging its attacks while dealing consistent damage. Don't be greedy and focus on staying alive within the Shrine's duration.

Additional Tips:

  • Flask Management: Utilize your flasks strategically. A Jade Flask for dodging and a Sulphur Flask for damage bursts can be helpful.
  • Curses (Optional): If your Ascendancy class or items allow, consider using curses like Weakening to reduce the Spire's damage output.
  • Minions/Totems (Optional): Summoned Totems or Minions can act as distractions and deal additional damage while you focus on dodging.

Remember, this challenge relies on some degree of luck in encountering both a Stygian Spire and a beneficial Shrine. Persevere, adapt your strategy based on the available Shrine effects, and victory will come eventually.
