Throne And Liberty is a MMORPG from NCSoft, the developers of the Lineage series. The game will be available on PC and PlayStation 5, be a completely new IP, and is getting a lot of attention after the director's announcement and overview video explaining the game was, in fact, ready to be released soon.
NCSOFT, a global premier game developer and publisher, today announced a global publishing agreement with Amazon Games for the company’s next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing game, THRONE AND LIBERTY.
With this agreement, Amazon Games has secured global publishing rights to bring THRONE AND LIBERTY to North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. NCSOFT will be in charge of publishing the game in other Asia territories, including Korea and Taiwan.

THRONE AND LIBERTY is the next-generation AAA MMORPG title, developed under the slogan of ‘Play For All’. The highly anticipated title will present a seamless living world and dungeon features that change depending on the weather condition and surrounding environments. It has an immersive narrative where the past, present, and future are connected. The game also offers ‘Free Class’ systems, where player roles are decided by their own choices, and a player vs. player combat system that allows players to decide whether they want to engage or not.
PANGYO, Korea (January 26, 2023) – NCSOFT, a global premier game developer and publisher, today opened ‘Final Test’ registration for the company’s new MMORPG, THRONE AND LIBERTY (TL).
TL’s Final Test will take place at Pangyo R&D Center for two days from February 21 to 22. Players who wish to participate can select one of the two test dates and sign up on the official TL website. Registration is open until February 12.
Participants in the TL Final Test can try out various in-game contents for approximately five hours, including tutorials and ‘Codex Play’, which engages the players to absorb the worldview and story. The Test will also feature regional events and raid system.
Principal Development Management Officer (PDMO) Moon Young Choi said, “We are hosting TL’s Final Test to evaluate the gameplay experience and directly satisfy players’ curiosity before its official release.” He added, “Based on the test feedback, we will further advance the game quality and launch TL within the first half of 2023 in the global market.”

While full details will have to wait until another day, NCSoft did announce that the final internal test is now accepting applications if you would like to try and get your hands on the game… even if it is only for 5 hours and is in-person in South Korea.
From January 26th until February 12th, you can visit the official sign up page for Throne and Liberty’s final internal test and take your shot at not only trying out the game, but also getting a fre RTX 3060 for your time.
The test will kick off on February 21 and 22 but will only last for about 5 hours each day and you have to either live in or be able to travel to NCSoft’s R&D Center in South Korea to take part. Bring your mask as COVID safety protocols will be in full force, and no, NCSoft won’t be footing the bill for your travels so it’s unlikely we’ll see anyone from our side of the pond be selected for this test phase.
While we tried and you CAN apply on the site as a western gamer using your PlayNC account, you will need to supply a phone number and in most cases your western number isn’t going to be “valid” according to the sign up form.
This test gives testers a chance to look at questing, raids, in-game world events, and more, so we can at the very least expect some footage coming from the team when testing kicks off, but don’t expect any from the testers themselves as phones will be restricted to certain areas of the building to ensure no footage escapes.
With the console and PC global release previously slated for the “first half 2023” we can’t be all that far from really getting our hands on the game, so here’s to hoping all goes well and the test (or the launch!) don’t see any delays.
Throne and Liberty is an open-world MMORPG with one seamless, explorable zone. The game also has a dynamic weather system that will impact gameplay and the visuals of the world. There is a story in the game, but it has been described by the team as a "background saga" rather than something that sits at the forefront of your experience - it is an MMO, after all, and designed to help players create their own stories. Throne And Liberty will launch globally on PC and on console.
TL has a class-less combat system, which means players can adapt their style by picking up different weapons without feeling tied-down to a certain set of skills and abilities. PVP is not forced, but can instead be opted into by entering certain zones during PVP events. There is a PVP ranking system. Guilds can also compete over areas of the map and earn rewards for controlling certain zones.
Although nothing has been confirmed directly, we do expect there to be some microtransactions in the game based on NCSoft's previous games. The studio has some renown for including pay-to-win microtransactions, although many players are hoping this will not be the case in Throne And Liberty.
