Throne and Liberty Delayed — TL

Throne And Liberty is an upcoming MMORPG from NCSoft, the developers of the Lineage series. Originally planned as the third installment in the series, Project TL, originally announced in 2011 but setback by multiple delays, is now known as Throne And Liberty and has a planned release date of 2023.

Throne and Liberty Delayed

Throne And Liberty was more recently delayed until the first half of 2023 because of ongoing discussions with a publisher (it is heavily rumoured that this publisher is Amazon Game Studios). It appears that they have delayed the game so that preparations can be made and still launch worldwide simultaneously. Again though, this is unconfirmed.

The game is likely on UE4 or UE5. The server capacity seems to be 3000 to 5000 players. The current plans for release are in the first half of 2023, the game was delayed to find a Western Publisher. It is being developed for PC and Console.

The game will be available on PC and PlayStation 5, be a completely new IP, and is getting a lot of attention after the director’s announcement and overview video explaining the game was, in fact, ready to be released soon.

NCSoft Delays Throne and Liberty into 2023 and Confirms Search for Global Publishing Partner

NCSoft released its Q2 2022 results recently, and in its report was data on increase in PC sales compared to the first quarter, led by Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, but another fact released in the financial disclosure was that Throne and Liberty would be pushed into 2023.

Guild Wars 2 is still on track to hit its Steam release by the end of the year, with continued updates beyond that. But Throne and Liberty, for which there hasn’t been a whole lot of info released for something that was supposed to be on track for a late 2022 launch, is now expected in the first half of next year. According to the financial report (transcript translated via Google translate)

“TL’, which is currently under development, is currently being tested by 3,000 internal employees. You have successfully completed this. After that, NCsoft said that it was preparing an opportunity to introduce TL to global gamers soon.”

This is in line with previous statement saying that the game was in internal testing phase, amid rumors that the potential global publishing partner could be Amazon Games. “As reported in the media recently, TL is discussing the best timing and partner for strategic overseas expansion from a strategic point of view,” reads another portion of the transcript. There is no denial or confirmation of any potential partners, but the company ultimately declares that, “Currently, it is scheduled for the first half of 2023”.

Throne and Liberty is one of several titles that NCSoft had previewed with code names and mysterious clips with little info in teasers. Known previously as TL, now there’s a title and a clearer release window. With the delay, it’s not known whether NCSoft will pursue a Korean release first then expand with a global one, or something more aligned.
