MLB The Show 24: Season 2 – Captain Ability Adjustments

The developers of MLB The Show 24 have made some key adjustments to Captain abilities for Season 2, aiming to promote lineup diversity and encourage the use of a wider range of Captains.

Addressing Season 1 Dominance

While internal data showed balanced win rates for Season 1 Captains Byron Buxton and Carlos Santana, their overwhelming popularity resulted in concerns about lineup diversity. To address this, the developers have reduced the effectiveness of both players’ Captain boosts. Their individual player attributes remain unchanged, and they can still be chosen as Wild Cards.

Transparency and a Fresh Start

These changes were implemented at the season’s start to avoid influencing squad building based on potential adjustments. The goal is to create a more distinct and dynamic Ranked experience in Season 2.

Boosting Team Captain Usage

The developers are pleased with the increased use of Team Captains compared to previous editions. However, they acknowledge that some teams’ Captains haven’t seen the same level of play. To address this, they’ve lowered the boost requirements for Captains of the following teams:

  • Tampa Bay Rays
  • Oakland Athletics
  • Miami Marlins
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Toronto Blue Jays
  • San Diego Padres
  • Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Minnesota Twins

These adjustments aim to make building competitive teams around these Captains a more viable option.

Looking Ahead

The developers are committed to monitoring Captain Card usage throughout the season. They look forward to seeing the creative squad building choices from players in Season 2!
