The Skeleton Lord was conceived as art first, with the design team subsequently using the art as inspiration for his fight. At BlizzCon 2019, it was called the “Tomb Lord.”

The Tomb Lord is an undead monster in Diablo IV, apparently as a boss. He summons skeletons and bone walls, while leveraging a giant staff that impacts the ground, creating a shower of exploding bone shards that blind the player.

The Tomb Lord is a creature made of fused skeleton and body parts, with sinew and blood connecting it together. It is a master of necromancy.

• The Skeleton Lord appears similar to the Skeleton King from previous games. Both wield staves/maces, both summon skeletons, and both are lords/monarchs.

The Tomb Lord is a heavily-armored skeleton found in the Vault of the Forgotten (region unknown). He’s much larger than the player character model and wields a disc-shaped mace. In addition, his tomb is filled with melted candles, skulls, and bones, of which, the Tomb Lord can resurrect into skeleton monsters to fight alongside him.

Abilities

He can resurrect his skeletal minions, create walls of bones and shatter them, and spin his magic into a storm of bone that can blind you.

1. For the bone storm, the Tomb Lord gathers surrounding bones with a tornado-like wind and traps the player in it.
2. For the bone wall, the Tomb Lord constructs a jagged, tall bone wall around himself to block the player. During this time, the player can be damaged by spawned skeletons and/or bone storms. The wall can then be shattered to inflict more damage.
