Diablo 4 Power

Power is a new mechanic in Diablo IV in form of extra affixes on items. It comes in three distinct types and provides two important functions.

List of D4 Powers

  • Angelic Power increases the duration of all beneficial effects (like self-buffs or healing)
  • Demonic Power increases the duration of all negative effects (like debuffs, Crowd Control or damage over time)
  • Ancestral Power increases the chance of on-hit effects (aka increased proc chance / Proc Coefficient)

Enabling secondary affixes

All three stats are found on any items as extra affixes, with same values. Each of the three Powers has a list of affixes that are attuned to it, and player may choose to focus on Angelic, Demonic, or Ancestral Power.

In addition to providing the above-stated benefits, Power also acts as pre-requisites for empowering certain other affixes. Not having enough of a specific Power still allows equipping the item, but will not unlock an affix linked to that power.

Example: an item may roll affixes with requirements such as 50 Demonic Power required to get an additional rank in the Devastation skill, 55 Demonic Power for extra 25% Fire Resistance, or 60 Demonic power for an additional 2 ranks in the Char to Ash skill.

Each linked affix requires a certain amount of specific Power, and they are not interchangeable. An item may even roll two or three affixes that all require different Powers. One can also gain multiple Power bonuses on the same item.

Sources of Power D4

The community has shared many good points on the topic of power sources and we’re reevaluating how much power comes from each source at any given time.

However, we want to clarify that in Diablo IV, power doesn’t come mostly from items. We want to have a good mix of power sources: characters naturally get stronger as they level up, skills have ranks that increase power, talents provide specific playstyle choices and additional character power, and of course items grant power and meaningful choices as well.

Something else to keep in mind is Legendary powers are just one part of an item’s power, and they won’t invalidate all other Affixes due to how powerful they are. For example, two to three normal Affixes are currently equivalent in power to a Legendary power on most items.
