Without being affected by Cauterised Flesh

Searing Rune – Tiled rune patterns move across the arena causing players standing on them to receive two debuffs:

  • Cauterised Flesh: You have -5% maximum Fire Resistance and your Travel Skills have 50% reduced Cooldown Recovery Speed. Persists for 10 seconds after moving off
  • Searing Rune: Deals Fire Damage over time and prevents recovery of Life or Energy Shield. Applies while standing on the rune.

The Searing Exarch in Path of Exile applies the debuff "Cauterized Flesh" during its fight, reducing your character's damage dealt by 5% for 10 seconds. Here's how to tackle this encounter and minimize the impact of Cauterized Flesh:

Understanding Cauterised Flesh:

  • Effect: Reduces your character's damage dealt by 5% per stack, stacking up to 10 times for a maximum of 50% damage reduction.
  • Source: Applied by Searing Exarch's rune patterns that move across the arena. Stepping on these runes inflicts Cauterized Flesh.

Strategies to Avoid Cauterized Flesh:

  • Movement Skills: Having a reliable movement skill like Flicker Strike, Leap Slam, or Shield Charge is crucial. Use it to navigate around the arena and avoid stepping on the rune patterns.
  • Arena Awareness: Pay close attention to the glowing rune patterns on the ground. They indicate where Cauterized Flesh will be applied. Plan your movement accordingly to avoid them.
  • Minions or Totems (Optional): If you're using a Summoner build or rely on totems for damage, strategically position them to avoid the runes. This way, your damage source remains unaffected by Cauterized Flesh.

Alternative Strategies:

  • Damage Over Time (DoT) Effects: Focus on building damage over time effects like Ignite, Bleed, or Poison. These can bypass the direct damage reduction from Cauterized Flesh to some extent.

Maximizing Damage Output:

  • While avoiding Cauterized Flesh is ideal, other strategies can help mitigate its impact:
    • High Base Damage: Having a strong base damage output helps offset the reduction from Cauterized Flesh.
    • Penetration Mechanics: Utilize gear or skills that grant elemental penetration (fire, cold, lightning) or chaos penetration to bypass enemy resistances and maintain damage effectiveness.

Community Resources:

  • Consult Path of Exile forums or online resources for the current league to see if there are any special mechanics related to Cauterized Flesh.
  • You can also check the Path of Exile Wiki for The Searing Exarch's page to learn more about its attack patterns and the Cauterized Flesh debuff: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/The_Searing_Exarch

By using a combination of these strategies, adapting your approach based on your character build, and staying mobile during the fight, you can minimize the effect of Cauterized Flesh and successfully defeat The Searing Exarch. Remember, good movement, awareness of the arena, and maximizing your overall damage output are key to success.

After completing a Rolling Meteors phase without being hit by any Rolling Meteors from a set of Meteors cast while Searing Exarch is below 20% health and without using any Movement Skills

  • Logging out during the Rolling Meteor phase will usually cause the phase to restart. Leaving the arena or dying during this phase may also cause the Exarch’s animations to bug out, rendering it invisible.
  • Minions such as Summon Skeletons, Totems, and Frost Wall can be used to body block Rolling Meteors, causing the meteors to be destroyed. Note that it will cause an AOE explosion which may still hit the character if not far enough away.
  • Teleportation movement skills (like Flame Dash) allow players to pass through Rolling Meteor walls without taking damage.
  • Avoid rolling the Buffered – 13% increased Quantity of Items found in this Area, 8% increased Rarity of Items found in this Area, Monsters gain (40-49)% of Maximum Life as Extra Maximum Energy Shield (Prefix) invitation mod, as the boss will recharge to full Energy Shield if the player fails to consecutively hit the boss or during immunity phases such as the Rolling Meteor Wall Phase. This mod will significantly increase the effective health of the boss and is not recommended for builds with low damage.

Without being hit by Annihilation

Bug Barrage – “Annihilation!” – casts a channeled version of Blazing Salvo that can turn while casting.

Attacks and Spells

  • Default attack – 75% of Physical Damage converted to Fire.
  • Flame Wall – “Disintegration!” – casts a long Flame Wall
    • Push Flame Wall – “Cleansing!” – causes the Flame Wall to move in a straight line away.
  • Bug Barrage – “Annihilation!” – casts a channeled version of Blazing Salvo that can turn while casting.
  • Lantern Explosion – “Incineration!” – charges up for a short duration, unleashing a very large AOE of Fire that bypasses Block/Dodge. The charge-up indicator AOE is slightly larger than the actual hit.
  • Rolling Meteor Wall – “The fires of a thousand suns!” – becomes invulnerable, unleashing 4~16 lines of Rolling Meteors across the arena. The Maven will destroy 4~10 Rolling Meteors per line (depending on the total number of lines) to give the player a gap to dodge the line. This skill always Ignites.
  • Searing Rune – Tiled rune patterns move across the arena causing players standing on them to receive two debuffs:
    • Cauterised Flesh: You have -5% maximum Fire Resistance and your Travel Skills have 50% reduced Cooldown Recovery Speed. Persists for 10 seconds after moving off
    • Searing Rune: Deals Fire Damage over time and prevents recovery of Life or Energy Shield. Applies while standing on the rune.
